North Wing Acton Castle, Rosudgeon

Truly remarkable 2 bedroomed wing of an Historic Castle dating back to 1775.

The castle was built by famous marine botanist John Stackhouse to enable his studies to be carried out in the Cove below.

Of dressed granite with walls topped by embattled parapets this is an outstanding example of skilled stone masonry.

The castle was extended in the 1900 s and has had a variety of uses over the last 100 years being converted to a small number of luxury apartments in the 1990s.

An infamous occupant of the castle was the smuggler John Carter known as The King of Prussia due to the proximity of Prussia Cove nearby when copious amounts of contraband came ashore.

Local legend says that tunnels from the castle led to the cove below.
